Kurt & Finn Nielsen – champion brothers!

The two brothers Kurt and Finn Nielsen have the last decades been champions many, many times and belonged to some of the absolute best fanciers in Denmark the last 20 years!

Unfortunately Finn Nielsen died this year only 64 years old and Kurt has chosen to sell all pigeons on a total auction on M&C Auctions in October 2021 due to bad health.

To honour Finns legacy and the results of Kurt and Finn we have written this presentation of their loft and pigeons!

But first we will let Kurt Nielsen say a few words about the total auction:
After more than 50 years with a life full of pigeons together with my close family, it is with sorrow that I sell all pigeons on auction. My beloved brother, best friend and my pigeon-partner, Finn, got cancer in november 2020 short time after his 64-years birthday. Unfortunately it was a very aggressive and painful cancer – and even though the hospital tried to do all they could, Finn died on March 29, 2021.
As boys we built our first pigeon-loft together and with 8 racing pigeons we raced together with our father in the name of August Nielsen and sons with great results. We won a lot of championsships and got a lot of 1. prize winners. After our father died, we moved the pigeons to Finns place. Here we have enjoyed the pigeons together with our families – mostly on Saturdays we met for breakfast together and many times we shared the dinners also on the racedays while we were waiting for the pigeons to arrive.
We had a good partnership because we could help eachother – when Finn was busy at work, I could take over. Unfortunately the last years I have also got some healthproblems. Because we lost Finn it was not possible for Finn to help me anymore when I struggled with my health – and even though I got some help from my other brother Peer, I chose to stop with pigeons after only a few weeks of 2021.

Unfortunately we now have to sell all pigeons – no pigeons have been removed or sold.
We have bred some summer youngsters from all breeders – also for this auction – and for the first time in 10 years we have also bred youngsters from the racers (due to the short season). Normally we only moved a few eggs from the racers if one of the breeding couples had empty eggs but normally we used the “dry” system at the racers.

Shortly about our system, so you understand why most of the pigeons are quite old. Our youngsters were only trained about 10 times up till 40 km – as yearlings we only wanted them to return nicely. Then as 2 years old they went on total widowhood and then we wanted to see results from them – and many of them were best as 5 or 6 years old. The best were moved to the breeding loft after a good career – in the breeding loft we had around 10 couples.

Kurt & Finn Nielsen – Danish National Champions Middledistance 2019 and 2020!

2 years in a row Kurt & Finn Nielsen managed to win the national championship on the middledistance!
Thats a fantastic achievement – but not unexpected for us – the two brothers have raced fantastic for the last 2 decades!

Since 2011 they have not added a single pigeon to their family – but only bred and worked with 4 lines on their breedingloft.
Let us try to present them for you, so you understand their families – also for the upcoming total auction.

Line 1 – their old family from when they raced with their father as August Nielsen & Sons:
On the loft today 4 pigeons from this old family are and have been very important for the topresults on the loft.

Line 2 – Romain Legiest pigeons via Tonni Christensen (127) – added to the loft in 2008
At this time the brothers searched for speed – and at this time Tonni Christensen was racing fantastic with his Legiest pigeons. 4 pigeons had a very good impact on the loft!

A fantastic racer – 1. National Olympic Pigeon in 2011 and 7. Olympic Pigeon in 2012. 1. Acepigeon in Section in 2009.
17 times in Top 20 in Section: 2, 2, 2, 4, 4, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8, 9, 11, 12, 16, 18, 20 etc.

The parents of 127-08-322 were only used in the breeding loft to strenghen this part of line 2:

The last pigeon from line 2 that was very important was:

She became a very good breeder – and mother to several top pigeons – olympic pigeons and acepigeons!

Line 3: One pigeon purchased at a total auction from Jorgen Mikkelsen (190) in 2006 was 190-99-0018 – and he bred in 2007 189-07-0313:

He was 1. Section winner himself in 2009, but he was father to several topracers – at least 5 different 1. Prize winners in section – and acepigeons!

Line 4: In 2011 the brothers purchased a pigeon from Jorgen Poulsen (084) – 084-05-0369 from Marcel De Groff origins.
This was to strenghen the results on the longer distances.

1. Section winner in 2007 – but a super breeder especially for the longer distances.
Sire and grandsire to winners and olympic pigeons – like section winners from Antwerp around 800 km.

Kurt and Finn Nielsen were for sure some of the fanciers in Denmark with the most olympic pigeons!
It was the goal every year to produce acepigeons and olympic pigeons because these pigeons could bring the family further!
Take a look at all these olympic pigeons:

All these pigeons you will find on the pigeons of the loft today!

2021 became a strange season for Kurt – he had just lost his brother and best friend – so after some weeks he stopped racing and took the hard decision to sell the pigeons.

But from 2009 till 2020 their results were fantastic – let’s mention:

For us there is no doubt that these champion brothers were some of the best fanciers in our country.
We are very sorry for the loss of Finn Nielsen – and this family in Danish pigeonsport – but we hope that the pigeon-family can live on for many years at other lofts after the total auction – the quality is there!
