Introduction Huub Hermans
Already at a very young age Huub came in contact with the sport of pigeons flight. At the age of 5, he sat on al small bench en waited for the pigeons of his neighbour, Pierre de Bruijn, to arrive from their flight. When his neighbour passed away in 1977, the Hermans family build a small loft at their own courtyard and Huub became a member of P.D.V. de Adelaar at his residence Born.
During the annual organized youth show of the C.L.B. v. P. in 1982, Huub won two orders from the champions loft off Thei Bours from Elsloo and Lei Zinken from Sittard. Both these players gave him a couple of brilliant pigeons and almost his entire loft is foundered on them.
Thei Bours and Huub developed a very special friendship and still every year Huub gets more pigeons from Thei Bours, so it’s not so strange that almost Huub’s complete loft is build on the pigeons of Thei. From this grandmaster Thei, Huub has offspring from almost all 25 provincial winners. Thereby Thei has provided Huub with lots of advice and good counselling throughout the years.
The last years several brothers and sister of the Natascha, best pigeon on the middle distance of the Netherlands in ’96 (also Olympic pigeon Basel ’97). The Natascha was also a full sister of the Ricardo, 4th best pigeon on the middle distance of the netherlands in ’96. The Ricardo is now one of the superbreeders on the loft of Mike Ganus (United States).
In 2007 and 2008 bought Huub several direct pigeons from Pieter Veenstra ( such as three halfsisters and 1 halfbrother of Mr. Blue, a direct son and daughter of Prima Donna, the nestbrother of Davinci and 3 direct children of Mr. Blue ), 7 grandchildren of “De Kleine Dirk” (G & C Koopman) and 7 grandchildren of “de Kannibaal” (Dirk van Dijck). The first breedings products of those last lines seems to be very excellent, when you see the results of them. In 2016 did Huub buy 2 hens direct by Dirk van Dyck, daughters from the Kannibal Junior. All these bloodlines crossed with his base line Van Loon blood did give him a push to the top of Limburg and the Netherlands.
Especially his world famous Blue Magic and Teletext Breeding couple did give him a lot pleasure and top achievements in the pigeonsport.
Although Huub with his 55 years of age is a young fancier on the sport, he has been active with pigeons for al long time. It’s impossible to look after al the pigeons by himself, he has got a fulltime job as a network-administrator at the municipality Leudal. Without his wife Diana and his mother Mientje, who lives at the same address, it had never been possible to become such a successful player as he is now.
So it can be said that the Hermans family is in it completely!
Methods
Huub is someone who can not be classified as a small fancier. He tries to place his pigeons on all the flights that count for the overall championships. That is the reason he plays the long distance flights and therefore he has to keep extra pigeons.
At wintertime there are about 200 pigeons at his lofts. For the normal flights there are 32 widowers and 40 hens available to play.
At the end of December the breeding pairs are mated (about 30 pair) and in the beginning of January the widowhood birds for regular flights will be paired. When the widowhood youngsters are just 14 days of age, the parents will be separated and part of the youngsters will be placed at the youngsters loft with there mom, some of them will stay with the cock to make the relation between them stronger. The pair will be reunited before the first flight, after they have mated again they will be separated on eggs that are just 6 or 8 days old and this is the method of widowhood, the pigeon that is send of far away and will do his best to come home as soon as possible to be reunited with his of her family. This game shall be played until the last one-day long-distance flight.
Since last year (2005) Huub also competes with 12 hen pigeons. He was inspired to play the game of widowhood hens by several German friends who race Huub’s hen pigeons already successfully.
Like the combination A. Bauer – J. Hofman (http://www.j-h-brieftauben-augenzeichen.de/). This combination has been buyers since 1993 and it can be said that 50% of there loft is originating from Huub Hermans.
The early young birds will be darkened and will not be separated. To simulate them as much as possible they are on al schedule of training 40 kilometres a week. The late bred requires not so much special care because the are mainly short distance pigeons.
Medical care is a high standard at Huub Hermans lofts, therefore every three to four weeks, vet Peter Boskamp (http://www.pigeonvetcenter.com/) from Beek is being consulted. The droppings are tested and from a couple of birds the throat smear will be taken for further examining. Depending on the results, treatment will take place. Every two weeks in flight season the birds will be given something against trichominase (Metro) and something to prevent throat and airway diseases and keep them clean (SA-mix).
Furthermore the pigeons get an obligatory yearly paramixo/herpes and will be given a paratyphoid cure and injection.
